Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), perhaps the greatest 20th-century American architect, designed the "Cabaret" pattern china as part of his unified scheme for Tokyo's Imperial Hotel. The hotel - built and completely furnished with Wright designs between 1917 and 1922 - was demolished in 1968.
