BUFFALO PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA RELEASES LIMITED EDITION CD “PRAIRIE MUSIC” TO HONOR THE MARTIN HOUSE (05/06)

Music composed by Aaron Copland pays tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie House era.

Music Director, JoAnn Falletta conducts the BPO in this selection of Aaron Copland’s great American music recorded January 31 and February 1, 2005 at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo. Including Copland’s “Prairie Journal” the CD honors the historic landmark Darwin D. Martin House complex, one of Wright’s finest residential designs of his Prairie House period. The CD is available from the Martin House museum shop (Wisteria Shop - online or on the historic site) or from the BPO.

“In ‘Prairie Music,’ great American architecture meets great American music in the sonic splendor of Aaron Copland’s tribute to life on the prairie,” Maestro Falletta said. And since Wright declared that the American prairie started just west of Buffalo when he designed the Martin House with his characteristic Prairie House features, it is fitting that Copland’s music be used to express the great architect’s love for the American Plains.

The CD also includes Copland’s “Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes,” and “The Red Pony,” taken from the John Steinbeck stories and which defines the composer’s roots as the “Dean of American Music.” CD liner notes include a narrative on Wright and Martin. Production of the album was made possible by the Wilson and Eleanor Greatbatch Family.

“Prairie Music” is on sale for $15.00 at the BPO (716 885-0331) and at the Martin House (716 856-3858) as well as on this web site (visit our online Shop) and at some local stores before the Noxos of America nationwide release in August, 2006.
